GOLF COURSE REVIEW

SKYLAKE RESORT & GOLF CLUB

Designer: Bori Golf Design (Ahn Moon Hwan)
Location: Near Hanoi
Style: Jungle-lined hills
Cost: From $220 NZD

The last course of the trip was SkyLake Resort and Golf Club. Similar to BRG Legend Hill, but different enough that it's worth playing both. This place was really sticky and hot, and we played the Sky Course — maybe we'd seen too many lakes by this stage of the tour.

SkyLake is a 36-hole complex, Korean-designed by Ahn Moon Hwan of Bori Golf Design — the members-only Lake Course has been rated Vietnam's most challenging, while the Sky Course we played is the one open to the public, cut through native jungle rather than around the lake.

Great quality again, but slower greens, same as we found back at the Da Nang courses. Everything was great — starting to sound like a broken record about how good everything was, and no, we're not getting paid by Golf Vietnam. It's just a different world from what we have in New Zealand, and we've been and still are members of two of the top courses back home. So we know this stuff.

THE VIETNAMTRIPPER VERDICT
Would we go again?
YES
Would we recommend it?
YES
Best thing: Great quality to the very last round — jungle-lined holes on the Sky Course made it feel genuinely different to everywhere else we'd played.
Worst thing: Slower greens than earlier in the trip, and by round five we'd seen a lot of lakes — it suffered slightly for being the last course on the itinerary, not for its own faults.
From $220 NZD
