HOTEL REVIEW

SALA DANANG BEACH HOTEL

Type: 4-Star Beachfront
Location: Son Tra, Da Nang
Beach: My Khe, ~4 min walk
Cost: NZ$115–145 / night

The Sala sits a street back from My Khe Beach, but that's not a problem at all — it's a short walk to the sand, the night market, and the string of beach restaurants along the front. There's also a convenience store and a pharmacy directly across the road, so you're never short of anything. The staff were great from the moment you walked in the front door right through to final check-out.

The standout is the rooftop — an infinity pool with a bar and a genuinely great, full Japanese restaurant up there. You can get your food delivered to you poolside, and the team — especially Them, who looked after us in the restaurant — sorted out whatever we asked for. The bar staff were an absolute hoot, lots of fun, and they taught us the correct way to toast before a drink — "Hai, ba, dô!" (pronounced "high, bar, zo"). Use it, they love it.

Make sure your room rate includes breakfast — some booking types charge for it separately, and this one is worth having included. The spread was top notch, with something for every taste, and they'll also cook eggs or steak to order. Breakfast runs from 6:30am to 10am, and you'll likely find yourself up early anyway — we were down there most mornings not long after it opened. Some of the crew joined a group exercise session on the beach first thing, which felt a bit embarrassing to start with, but nobody cared for long and we just went with it looking slightly out of place. Others warmed up in the small but well-equipped gym instead, then a quick dip in the pool before breakfast.

Tram was our concierge and sorted out anything we needed — including our trip out to Ba Na Hills, transport included, which worked out cheaper than booking a Grab ourselves. She was also the one to ask for advice on where to get the best massage after a round of golf. There are a few options directly across the road, and we found a great one-hour massage for around NZ$9 — exactly what you want after a hot day on the course.

A Grab to the markets cost around NZ$5. Overall, this is a great spot to base yourself in Da Nang — walkable to the night market and the beachfront restaurants, with everything else you need close by. We couldn't fault the hotel or the staff.
